Today was one fun day for Kav and me. Since Rajesh was out of town, I'd asked his playschool car to pick him up in the morning. Come 9.30 and with the car not in sight, I decided to just take the plunge and put Kav on my 2-wheeler and haul him off to school.
Rajesh had already taken him on a couple of short rides in thatha's scooter. Kav was just so thrilled to get on and stand in front. I was little curious how he would behave at the traffic signal. Would he want to get off; would he get restless? But he was just fine, chattering away about the buses and autos and cars and dogs. It was just soooo much fun. Can't wait for tomorrow morning!

Kavin is talking a lot!
At 2 years and 3 months, my baby is reciting rhymes in English and Tamil! He knows the English alphabets, numbers till 10 and mostly speaks in sentences. I really can't believe how many words he has picked up and how much he is stringing them together in the last 2 months. Each day, we look forward to what new things he has picked up at school. The teacher says h
e loves to sit in the classroom now, and does all the pre-school activities with the older kids, although he is still only in the playschool. Here he is, dressed for the Independence Day celebrations at school. More photos in his website.
The not-so-cute side is that he has started to push people around. He typically does that when someone is affecting him and he shows his irritation to the people closest to him by hitting or pushing them. He has also pushed a couple of kids at school; but I heard that it happened from both sides and the teacher just laughed it off. Our continuous nagging this last month to not do so seems to have had a slight impact. He is one strong kid though and that is what worries me.
He's made a few girl friends at his grand mom's place and they have taken such a huge liking to him. The girls are a couple of years older and are that much more mature. It is amazing to see such young kids handling a younger kid so well!
One thought that is going through my head now is when should I put him in Kindergarden at school? Next year at admission time, he would be 3 years and 2 months, and hence not eligible (cut off of 3.5) to a lot of the good schools. Should I admit him to a school which has a cut off of 3 years for admission, or should I wait till 2009, when he would be 4 years old?? Any thoughts on this would be most welcome.

Kav is 2!
Its no joke as to how much I've missed recording here. I think the last I talked about was Kav in play
school. Well, he has even had a playschool convocation program where he was awarded a cute, little cup and a certificate of attendance. He was also a part of a group dance program, and I use the word 'dance' very loosely! He was just standing around, looking bewildered; but it was oh-so-cute :)
I've started to work. Yup, am a working mom now and that's my excuse for doing a very lousy job with this blog. I promise to be more regular though. Just today I was talking to someone that I blog, and I thought 'Do you really?' Well, here I am :)
Kav adjusted fantastically to me working. My mom takes care of him during the day, and he enjoys his grandparents company so much, that he starts bidding good-bye to me the minute I hang on my id badge! Every single day, I have butterflies in my stomach before I enter our home and set my eyes on him. It's like falling in love every day, and that is an unexpected bonus I got from working.
I do miss him at times, but not nearly as I dreaded I would. I know he loves his playschool (they are doing some summer camps now) and then he naps for some 3 hours, which essentially means I am missing out on his cutie things for some 3 hours only. Atleast that's what I say to console myself. And honestly, the work environment is so different with its own set of challenges that acts as a great stimuli to me.
And then, I got around to planning his 2nd bday (April 15th). We did not want a big bash, but certainly something fun. So we just decided to call our closest friends and their kids over for a terrace party that catered to the kids and the adults! Kav's grandparents came over and sp
ent time with him during the day.
I decided not to have a theme just yet. But I did choose a train cake since he is nuts about trains these days. We rented one of those huge, inflatable bouncy castles and some 50 balloons. We also arranged for chairs and tables beforehand. I decided to go with a simple pizza party. I made some crudites and a dip which was a huge hit. I also prepared a cold, gazpacho soup, which turned out to a great idea on a hot evening.
Everyone had a great time. Kav did not get on the castle even once. And I didn't want to force and upset him. He ate some nibbles, but wanted no part of the cake! The gourmet pizzas were yummy and emptied up in no time. Kav got some fantastic gifts, ranging from books, lots of clothes to toys and puzzles.
On the 22nd, we celebrated his star birthday at the Oppiliyappan Kovil with his grandparents. We rented a Tavera and had a great time visiting some old houses around Kumbakonam and a couple of temples. Kav was extremely well behaved all thro' out the 6 hour drive. Do I have to say that I am really blessed to have this little guy in my life?

Playschool progress
Kav has now completed 2 full days at playschool since they reopened after the hols. Yesterday, he apparently got attached to a part time teacher and became very upset when she had to leave. He cried and screamed for a full half hour before I got there at pick up time. He did cling onto me for some 20 mins but was fine thereafter, and even went to sleep on his own (big indicator that he is alright).
Today, he cried right after I put him into his pickup van. But I sent along his safety blanket and a couple of his books, so that familiar objects might soothe him. I called his princy and asked her to use them if needed. Looks like he settled down after he reached the school and spent the afternoon reading out stories to 3 new kids who joined today! The image of Kav surrounded by tiny tots listening to him reading (babbling!) is just too darned cute :)
His nap time is getting affected because of this new schedule. While he used to sleep between 11-noon, now it is pushed back to after 1. He slept till 5.30 yesterday and eventually went to bed at 10.30pm. I gotta work on shorter naps so he sleeps atleast by 9 and give us some couple time after!
